Almost every school across the District holds a musical performance and sing-along, bringing the community together during the winter months. Here are a few highlights.
Angelic voices filled the air, adding to the festive holiday spirit as the Fordson Chamber Choir performed at the 2017 Detroit Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. The group was invited by the Detroit 300 Conservancy to perform during the event Campus Martius under the direction of teacher Matthew Laura.
Vocalists in Dearborn High School’s Men’s Ensemble were honored to join the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club in celebrating the bicentennial anniversary of U of M during a Symposium with an international collaboration of male choruses. After a day of rehearsal with international conductors, they performed a Polish War Song in Polish, O Que Me Diz O Vento Tropical in Portuguese, and Ingoma in Zulu- a fantastic enrichment experience in diveristy and global awereness.
The young percussionists in the Maples Elementary Music Ensemble entertained visitors at the Festival of Trees at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center as well as at a recent Dearborn School Board meeting. The Stout String Ensemble also performed a medley of tunes including traditional Christmas carols at a School Boardmeeting.
Boys and girls in the Elementary and Middle School Honors Choirs donned their winter coats on several evenings to sing at Greenfield Village’s Holiday Nights and the City of Dearborn Sing-Along and Tree Lighting ceremony. They also were honored to perform with the Detroit Children’s Choir in Downtown Detroit.
