Summer a good time for student health physicals

Parents are reminded that summer is a good time to schedule needed health physicals for students, although some athletes may not need another physical for the coming school year.

Students entering kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades and those starting school for the first time should have physicals and up-to-date immunizations before school resumes in August.  Please remember to have your doctor’s office complete the school physical form.  You will need to submit that form to school when school resumes.

Usually, all middle and high school athletes also need an annual physical to participate in sports.  However, with the issues caused by COVID-19, the Michigan High School Athletic Association this year is waiving that requirement for students who had a sports physical after April 15, 2019.  For those athletes who submitted a sports physical form for the 2019-2020 school year, parents need only to complete and sign a health questionnaire for the 2020-21 school year.  This does not exempt ninth graders from needing a school physical to start high school.

Students athletes who did not have a sports physical after April 15, 2019 still need to schedule a physical and complete the standard sports physical form.
