Childcare options planned during blended learning

Two boys work on their remote learning while attending child care at DuVall Elementary in the fall of 2020.

As the district prepares to bring students back with blended learning, Dearborn Public Schools will continue to offer paid childcare at select schools.

Childcare programs will again be offered at DuVall, Haigh, Howard, Howe Montessori/Dearborn Heights campus, Lindbergh, Long, Snow and Whitmore Bolles.  Programs only run if a minimum number of students participate.

Parents should understand there are three types of child care being offered by our Early Childhood Program.

Our traditional Kids Club offers child care before and/or after school for students.  When blended learning starts, morning Kids Club will be available day from 7:30 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.  for $13 per day per child.  After school Kids Club will run from 2:20 to 5:30 p.m. for $15.60 per day.

During blended learning, students will only attend classes at school two days a week. The other three days will continue to be remote learning.

For parents, who need child care on weekdays when their little one is not attending in person, the district is also offering wrap-around services to provide child care. All day child care runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a cost of $36 for eight hours, $38 for nine hours and $40 for 10 hours.

The third option is for parents who need child care even before blended learning starts. Daily child care is currently available at DuVall and Lindbergh elementary schools at the same pricing listed above.

Children are required to wear face masks while at child care.  Child care workers will assist children in accessing remote learning, but students need to bring their own laptop or Chromebook and school materials.

A minimum enrollment must be maintained to run this tuition-based program, and enrollment is first come first serve.  Kids Club is offered at schools based on interest after a principal requests an interest survey.

The district is currently creating a list of families interested in enrolling in a Kids Club program in east Dearborn. If you are interested, or have other questions, please call the office at 313-827-8350 and leave a detailed message with your name, phone number and child’s school.
