District parents are invited to come and learn more about the new English language arts curriculum being adopted in our middle schools.
A presentation about the Amplify ELA program will be held on Wednesday, May 18, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Woodworth Middle School in Team Room 228. The school is at 4951 Ternes, Dearborn.
Parents, teachers, students and community members from across the district are invited to the meeting to learn more about the curriculum, which was approved at the Monday, May 9 board meeting. Guests can view the books, novels and journals that middle school students will be using next year and in the future.
The district piloted two middle school English curriculum programs this year, with Amplify being used in 17 classrooms across a few schools. Teachers in the pilot worked in grade level teams to participate in training, complete biweekly reflection surveys and engage in two meetings about which resource to adopt. The Middle School ELA Committee recommended Amplify, which was also approved by the middle school administrators, the district Curriculum Council and Instructional Cabinet.
