Nov. 14 Board of Education meeting to be held at Stout

The Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education is planning to hold its Nov. 14, 2022 regular meeting at Stout Middle School.

The district moved its reconvened October meeting to Stout to hold extremely large crowds interested in attending to speak and hear about books in the district’s media centers.  The Nov. 14 meeting will start at 7 p.m.

Stout Middle School was selected for a number of factors, including the number of people that can be accommodated and available parking.  The issues residents are bringing to the board are not specific to that school.

Those planning to attend the meeting are not permitted to bring backpacks or other large bags. Guests are also asked not to bring signs to the meeting to ensure everyone can see and for safety reasons.

Stout is at 18500 Oakwood Boulevard, Dearborn.  Those coming for the meeting will need to use the front door facing Oakwood near the school’s digital sign.  Doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m.  The auditorium seats about 600 people.  If that fills up, then those attending will be asked to watch from the nearby school cafeteria.  The meeting will be shown on monitors in the cafeteria and gym.

The meeting will also be shown live on the district’s YouTube Channel and will be available later on the district’s cable television channel and YouTube.

The Board of Education is not expected to vote on anything related to school library books.

Those wishing to speak to the board must submit a blue card form by 7:10 p.m.  Speakers will be limited to 3 minutes each, per longstanding board policy.  Time cannot be yielded to another speaker. Speakers should not mention the names of students or district employees.  Speakers are also reminded that they are there to address the board.  If a speaker needs translation assistance, they are encouraged to contact the Superintendent’s Office before 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 so arrangements can be made.

A Board of Education meeting is not a town hall or other open forum.  The purpose of the meeting is to allow the Board to conduct the business of the district.  Disruptions or rude behavior will not be tolerated, and that person could be asked to leave.
