Haunted car wash fundraiser returns Oct. 27 and 28

A spooky clown peers in a car window as a girl inside the car yells.

Lock your car doors, roll up the windows and head up to the Westborn Haunted Car Wash for some sudsy, spooky fun on Oct. 27 and 28.

Last year’s biggest Halloween fun event is back this year for two consecutive nights. The O.L. Smith Middle School PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) has teamed up again with Westborn Car Wash to present The Haunted Car Wash Tunnel of Terror.

The fundraiser will be held Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, from 7 to 10 p.m. each evening. Westborn Car Wash is at 25073 Michigan Ave in Dearborn, between Gulley Road and Telegraph. The spooky ride costs $15 per vehicle (cash or credit card), which includes a clean car, treat bag, coupons for a free small ice cream cone for children 14 and under attending the event and plenty of scares!

Participants will receive an entertaining, immersive experience that begins as soon as they pull into the parking lot and will have them on the edge of their seat until their sparkling clean car emerges from the Tunnel of Terror, all from the safety of their own vehicle. Freaky phantoms, evil clowns, and devilish demons will take over for two nights only, ensuring that patrons get the scare of their life with haunted scenes and displays as they proceed through the car wash, ending with a terrifying towel dry and treat bags. This years’ event will have new displays, characters, and even bigger scares.

“Year after year, this event showcases the commitment our families and community partners have to going above and beyond to support our students,” said O.L. Smith Principal Mark Rummel.

Westborn Car Wash Owner Ali Turfe loves Halloween and is using the event to give back to Dearborn, the community he loves. Since its inception, the event has entertained hundreds of families and benefitted O.L. Smith Middle School in a huge way, raising more than $11,000 to provide for classroom activities, programs, student enrichment and supplies. This year, Turfe is again generously donating 100 percent of the proceeds to support students and school programs.

“Westborn Car Wash is so excited to bring this event back again this year for our community and to support Dearborn Schools. I’m happy to use my business to create joy, fun and memories for families while supporting this neighborhood school. It feels great to give back and support these young students,” Turfe said.

Rummel added, “It’s a winning event that is really the best of all worlds; it engages our community, provides fun our students and families, and raises money for our students. Donating their time and resources, our parents and business community prove they are truly all-in for the kids.”

Dearborn Dairy Queen Grill & Chill, 4600 Greenfield Road in Dearborn, has again generously pitched in to help keep the fun going by offering a free small ice cream cone to any child 14 years or under who received the special ticket in their Haunted Car Wash treat bag (while supplies last). Owners Talal and Ali Haidous are happy to support O.L. Smith Middle School and Dearborn families.

“Nothing is more important to our business than family and community,” said Talal Haidous. “We are happy to sponsor this fun event for the community and to support Dearborn schools. We hope families can go out, have a great time at the event, and end the night with a sweet treat at Dairy Queen Grill & Chill.”

Ali Haidous added, “Since we began partnering with O.L. Smith two years ago, Dairy Queen Grill and Chill has given away hundreds of ice cream cones and helped families extend the fun of the evening. We love Dearborn Schools and are happy to be a part and support this great event.”
