The Board of Education for Dearborn Public Schools has changed two of its previously published regular meeting dates for 2024.
The meeting originally set for Tuesday, April 9 will now be held on Thursday, April 11. District schools are closed on April 9 and 10 this year for Eid al-Fitr.
The June 17 meeting was canceled because it falls during Eid al-Adha. The district will still have its June 3 meeting. Traditionally the board holds two school district meetings in June because trustees are required to approve the next year’s budget by the end of that month. Trustees also meet each month as the board for Henry Ford College and will meet at HFC on June 10. While they can perform district work during the college meetings, they typically avoid mingling their district and college responsibilities unless the timeliness of an issue requires it be addressed at the other meeting.
The Board of Education approves its meeting schedule every year in June before the new fiscal year starts in July. In 2023, they were in the unique position of creating their meeting calendar before the school calendar had been set yet because of ongoing teacher contract talks.
