Students from Lowrey School in Dearborn will grace the stage with the National Arab Orchestra as the national ensemble performs in Dearborn on April 26.
The National Arab Orchestra will perform on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Tickets are available through the center’s box office and start at $50 a seat.
Twenty middle school band and orchestra students, normally under the direction of teacher Marwan Nashef, will perform one song with the National Arab Orchestra during this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Founded in 2009, the National Arab Orchestra was originally a takht; a small chamber music group comprised of Arabic instruments. Since then, the ensemble has grown to become an orchestra under the leadership of its founder and music director, Michael Ibrahim.
This is the first time Lowrey students have performed with the orchestra. During a 2023 visit to Dearborn, the orchestra invited choir students from Fordson and Dearborn high schools to join them on stage.
