Public invited to high school Memorial Day ceremonies

All three traditional public high schools in Dearborn are planning special events before Memorial Day to remember fallen soldiers from their schools.

The ceremonies will take place in the morning of the week before Memorial Day, and all will honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  Visitors are welcome to attend the events.

Dearborn High School is holding its ceremony on Wednesday, May 21 starting at 9 a.m. in the school auditorium. The event honors Dearborn High graduates and others who lost their lives in the service of our country, including James Huard who died in Vietnam and has a memorial on the school grounds.

Fordson High School will hold its War Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony on Thursday, May 22, also at 9 a.m. in the school auditorium. The event will honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to our nation and Fordson alumni who served in our country’s military.

Edsel Ford High School’s annual Memorial Day Rose Ceremony will take place Friday, May 23th at 7:50 a.m. The event will include comments from Superintendent Glenn Maleyko and Dearborn Fire Chief Joseph Murray and performances from the Edsel Ford choirs.

Dearborn Public Schools will also be well represented in the City of Dearborn’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26. Ten schools have bands performing in the parade, and some school-related groups will also participate. Participating school bands include Dearborn and Edsel Ford high schools; Lowrey, Bryant, Smith, Stout, STEM, Unis and Woodworth middle schools; and Salina Intermediate.

The Memorial Day Parade will start with a ceremonial funeral procession at 9:30 a.m.  This year’s parade will move back to its traditional route through east downtown Dearborn, starting at Schaefer Road and moving along Michigan Avenue to the Henry Ford Centennial Library.
