Dearborn Public Schools is updating its calendar for 2026 – adding an extra day off around both Eid celebrations and pushing back the last day of school.
Another day off was added in March and in May. Schools will now be closed March 18 through 20, 2026. Spring break from March 30 to April 3, 2026 did not change. In May, schools will now be closed May 25 to May 28, 2026.
The extra days off around Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha will ensure families do not have to decide between sending their children to school or keeping their religious traditions if the Eids do not fall as expected. The change also will protect the district from possibly losing state funding due to low attendance on those days if there is a conflict.
As a result of those changes, the last day of school for 2026 was pushed back to June 11.
The school calendar is part of the contract negotiated with the Dearborn Federation of Teachers, and calendar updates are the result of continuous discussions between the district and the union. Administration appreciates the collaboration with all of the district’s union partners.
Next school year will start on Monday Aug. 25, with school open houses set for Friday, Aug. 22.
