Three Dearborn Public School Principals are among the finalists for principal of the year from the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP).

Hebat Abdelbaki, Stout Middle School Principal, and Mark Rummel, O.L. Smith Middle School Principal, are among three finalists for Middle School Principal of the Year. Maha Fayad, O.L. Smith Assistant Principal, is among three finalists for Assistant Middle School Principal of the Year.

“We congratulate Ms. Abdelbaki, Mr. Rummel, and Ms. Fayad for being named state finalists. We appreciate the Michigan Association of Secondary Principals for recognizing the amazing work these administrators do for their students every day,” said Dearborn Schools Superintendent Glenn Maleyko.

Mark Rummel has worked for 22.5 years in education, including seven as an administrator at Smith. Among the statements submitted in support of his nomination was “Principal Rummel exemplifies what it means to be a servant leader. His work is rooted in kindness, guided by purpose, and driven by the belief that every child deserves the best we can offer.”

Hebat Abdelbaki has spent 23 years working in education, eight years as an administrator including four years at Stout. Her nominations included the statement “Her vision is to prepare students not only for academic success but also for real-world challenges, ensuring they leave school with the skills and confidence needed to thrive.”

Maha Fayad has worked in education for 24 years, including three as Assistant Principal at Smith. Her nominations included a statement, “What sets Ms. Fayad apart is her ability to lead with both head and heart. She is highly respected by teachers for being a supportive instructional coach and by students for being a steady, approachable mentor.”

MASSP plans to announce the Michigan principals of the year by November.  The state honoree in each category will then be included in the nominations for national principal of the year awards.

“Whoever takes home the state award, we know the three administrators are already winners in our eyes, and their students are winners, too, for having such great leadership at their school,” said Lamis Srour, Executive Director of Student Achievement.  Ms. Srour oversees the Edsel Ford High feeder track, which includes both Smith and Stout.
