Chatting with the Superintendent events restart Sept. 26

Glenn Maleyko

Parents, students and community members are invited to chat about Dearborn Public Schools with Superintendent Glenn Maleyko at any of a series of upcoming events starting on Sept. 26.

The informal events are called Chatting with the Superintendent, and they provide a way for the public to hear updates and ask questions about what is happening in the district. Some executive directors in the district will also hold their own chatting events.  At each of the events, a team of administrators will be available to help answer questions on a variety of topics.  Administrator chatting events will be posted on individual school blogs.

Chatting with the Superintendent events for the public are scheduled for:

  • Sept. 26, 2024 at 9:15 a.m. at Oakman Elementary, 7545 Chase Road, Dearborn
  • Oct. 29, 2024 at 4:45 p.m. at Smith Middle, 23851 Yale, Dearborn
  • Dec. 10, 2024 at 9:15 a.m. at Maples Elementary, 6801 Mead St., Dearborn
  • Jan. 23, 2025 at 9:15 a.m. at Woodworth Middle, 4951 Ternes, Dearborn
  • Feb. 5, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Snow Elementary, 2000 Culver, Dearborn
  • March 20, 2025 at 6 p.m. at Edsel Ford High, 20601 Rotunda Dr., Dearborn

The meetings are open to all community members, district staff, students and parents.  Parents are welcome to attend any of the Chatting events, even if their child attends a different school.

By design, Chatting events are less formal than school board meetings, providing an opportunity for interactive conversations on a variety of school-related topics.

“I appreciate the opportunity to talk with our community and provide individuals with the big picture story of our district, to listen to their thoughts and comments, and hopefully to answer any questions they may have for me or our administrative team,” Dr. Maleyko said.  “I have held Chatting events for most of my nine years as superintendent.  We have discovered this relaxed setting encourages open dialog and leads to good conversations and the sharing of ideas.”

Conversations will be driven by those in attendance and could focus on topics related to individual schools or to the district as a whole.  Parents who want to discuss particular students or staff members should arrange to meet privately with the school principal or child’s teacher.

Possible topics for Chatting events could include the district’s infrastructure needs and the possibility of a bond question next year, legislative changes impacting the district, parent involvement in schools, and more. Parents and community members can also bring their own questions or concerns to be discussed.
