The Dearborn Schools Board of Education appointed attorney Nasri Sobh to fill the remaining open seat on the board during a special meeting on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025.
Mr. Sobh is an attorney with the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and holds an MBA from Wayne State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. This year he also started working as an adjunct professor at Henry Ford College. He ran for school board in November 2024 and garnered more than 6,500 votes.
Mr. Sobh will fill the seat vacated by Hussein Berry when he resigned from the board in August. Last week, the Board of Education appointed Ali K. Bazzi to fill another seat vacated in August when Irene Watts resigned from the board after her family moved out of the district. Mr. Sobh and Mr. Bazzi will serve until November 2026 when the next school board elections are held. Whoever wins those seats will join the board after the elections are certified.
Mr. Sobh is expected to start his term at the Board of Education’s next regular meeting on Oct. 13. The Sept. 15 Board of Education special meeting can be viewed on the Henry Ford College’s YouTube Channel.
Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education members also serve as trustees for Henry Ford College. The Board of Education sets district and college policies and budgets, hires and evaluates both the superintendent and college president, approves union contracts and pay scales, and oversees construction and other major building issues. Trustees are not directly involved in the day-to-day operations of the schools or college.
For Henry Ford College, trustees have already begun looking for a search firm to assist with hiring a new college president. Former President Russ Kavalhuna announced in April that he was leaving to become president at Western Michigan University.
