Informal public Chatting sessions return on Dec. 11

Lamis Srour

Parents, students and community members are invited to chat about Dearborn Public Schools with Interim Superintendent Lamis Srour at any of a series of upcoming events starting Dec. 11, 2025.

The informal events, called Chatting with the Superintendent, are a decade-long tradition in the district, and they provide a great way for the public to hear updates and ask questions about what is happening in Dearborn Public Schools. Some executive directors in the district will also hold their own chatting events.  At each of the events, a team of administrators will be available to help answer questions on a variety of topics.  Administrator chatting events will be posted on individual school websites and may also appear on the district events calendar at firstbell.dearbornschools.org

Ms. Srour officially starts as interim superintendent on Dec. 5 and will serve in that role until a new superintendent is hired.  Since the hiring process is expected to take a few months, the district did not want to wait to interact with residents. Ms. Srour is also the Executive Director of Student Achievement over the Edsel Ford feeder track and will return to that role once the new superintendent is in place.

Chatting with the Superintendent events for the public are scheduled for:

  • Dec. 11, 2025 at 8:15 a.m. at Michael Berry Career Center, 22586 Ann Arbor Trail, Dearborn Heights.
  • Jan. 14, 2026 at 3:05 p.m. at Geer Park Elementary, 14767 Prospect St., Dearborn.
  • Feb. 11, 2026 at 9 a.m. at Salina Elementary, 2700 Ferney St., Dearborn.
  • March 12, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. at Whitmore-Bolles Elementary, 21501 Whitmore St., Dearborn.
  • April 20, 2026 at 6 p.m. at DuVall Elementary, 22561 Beech St., Dearborn.
  • May 14, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. at William Ford Elementary, 14749 Alber St., Dearborn.

The meetings are open to all parents, community members, district staff, and students.  Parents are welcome to attend any of the Chatting events, even if their child attends a different school.

By design, Chatting events are less formal than school board meetings, providing an opportunity for interactive conversations on a variety of school-related topics.

“I know my time as superintendent is limited, but I plan to be part of Dearborn Public Schools for many years to come,” Interim Superintendent Srour said.  “I want to encourage all of our parents and residents to still attend these events to learn more about the great things we are doing in the district and the challenges we face and to ask questions and offer input.”

Conversations will be driven by those in attendance and could focus on topics related to individual schools or to the district as a whole.  Parents who want to discuss particular students or staff members should arrange to meet privately with the school principal or child’s teacher.

Possible topics for Chatting events could include the district’s infrastructure needs and the possibility of a bond question in 2026, legislative and government changes impacting the district, parent involvement in schools, and more. Parents and community members are welcome to bring their own questions or concerns to be discussed.
