Dearborn Schools is pleased to announce that new playground equipment has been ordered for Nowlin Elementary School.
In July, a fire destroyed a handicap accessible playground at Nowlin Elementary. No one was hurt in the blaze, and the fire was contained to the play structure.
During the August 17, 2026 Board of Education meeting, trustees agreed to order a new play structure from We Build Fun for $124,129. Except for a $5,000 deductible, the structure will be paid for by the district’s insurance. The Dearborn Elks also donated $500 towards the restoration of the playground.
The district plans to add a rubber mat under the new structure to make it more accessible to students with disabilities. Installation of the playground should start in October with a potential reopening in November.
